IF SHEPARD BUSHIRI IS A SELF PROCLAIMED PROPHET THEN WHO PROCLAIMED OTHERS?

Shepherd Bushiri recently caused unrest in South Africa because of the allegations that were brought to Hawks of money Laundering. Shepard Bushiri and wife were granted bail of R200 000 each, their bail conditions stated that they should report to the nearest police station every Wednesday and Friday. Their bail conditions also included that they should not skip the country under any circumstances. 

To fast forward Shepherd Bushiri and the wife skipped the country into their country of birth Malawi. 

Many media reports described Bushiri as a self proclaimed prophet and that is where the big question comes in. If Bushiri is a self proclaimed prophet then who proclaimed other prophets?
